PAST SEMINAR HIGHLIGHTS
THE
APPLEGATE POINT SHOOTING TECHNIQUE SYMPOSIUM
Unfortunately, Colonel Rex Applegate suffered a
stroke on July 7, 1998 while in San Diego, CA, and then succumbed to
complications and passed away on July 14, 1998. But, as the Colonel would have
wanted, we continued the mission. The always impressive Bill Burroughs, (below
right), President of
TALON International, presented the entire
block of instruction. As usual, Bill presented a complete and professional
program, at the conclusion of which none of the
Attendees came to the Ramada Rolling Green Inn & Conference Center in Andover from all over the northeast, to include MA, NH, VT, ME, CT, NY, and NJ. The program ran seamlessly, the food was great, and everyone left with a great deal of pertinent information.

THE CIRILLO
ADVANCED LAW ENFORCEMENT INSTRUCTOR COURSE On October 22-23, 1998, Jim Cirillo, a legendary figure in US law enforcement, took part in the second Saber Group "Seminar Series" of programs. Jim was the primary instructor for the two-day, live-fire instructor program that was held at the MA State Police Academy in New Braintree, MA. Jim was 67 years young at the time, and still moving and shooting, teaching and preaching. He generally only teaches between 3-6 programs a year all over the country, and we were very fortunate to have him.
Jim is a great instructor and a very decent man. While a member of NYPD's elite Stakeout Squad, Jim and the other nine members of the unit were involved in more than 200 gunfights with armed, murderous thugs. In a period of approximately 5 years, a total of 43 of these thugs were killed during these gun battles. Jim Cirillo, involved in 17 gunfights, was personally responsible for 12 of these miscreants being permanently retired from a life of crime.
Jim has taken the unique knowledge gained from his experiences and combined it with his skills as a champion competition shooter and law enforcement firearms instructor. The result is a down-to-earth teaching style reinforced by unmatched certainty into what really does and does not work under fire. As the attendees discovered, Jim is not just a literal well of information, but also an engaging, funny, and deeply committed man. We here at Saber Group look forward to a long association with him.
